The Safe House is a confidential shelter that provides safety, support and referrals to victims of intimate partner violence and their children. It is a four week program with one week extensions as needed, with an average stay of eight weeks. The program consists of legal assistance, case management and therapy. Both individual therapy and group therapy are provided during your stay.
In order to get into the Safe House, you will start by calling our crisis line at: 805.781.6400. The staff will determine, based on the information provided, whether or not you are eligible to enter the program, or if referrals are more appropriate.
While at the Safe House, adjusting may be difficult at first, however, most residents settle in rather quickly as they are relieved that they are safe. Our Safe House is a communal living environment. There is a shared kitchen and living area, with each resident having their own room. Usually at the end of the program, clients are self-sufficient by the way of having the support they need for housing, legal assistance and therapy. Clients can access therapy services after they exit the Safe House and continue working with case management as well as legal services if there are continued needs.
The emergency shelter and support services provided by the agency have been shown to be effective for the vast majority of participating clients. Client surveys from the most recent fiscal year indicate that 100% of all shelter clients reported an increased sense of safety. 95% reported that shelter services increased their sense of self-sufficiency. 100% reported that shelter services increased their sense of self-esteem.
